Lady Warrior Basketball Opens Season with Hard Fought Victory Over Alter

Lady Warrior Basketball opened their season on Saturday at the Queen City Tip-Off against perennial parochial power, Alter High School.

In a game where offense was hard to come by, the Lady Warriors found enough of it as they used a strong second half to open up the game and leave with a 38-23 victory.

Wayne took the opening quarter 6-2, which proved to be the difference in the first half as they went into intermission up 14-10.

They Lady Warriors ramped up the defensive pressure as they opened up their lead in the 3rd quarter and wound up cruising to a 15-point victory over the Lady Knights.

Sophomore guard NaRiya Goddard led all scorers in the game with 19 points, also adding 5 rebounds and a steal. While the Lady Warriors shot a mere 16-52 (30.8%) from the field, but assisted on 7 of those made baskets. Their length and athleticism defensively stymied the Lady Knight offensive attack as they were held to just 6-39 (15.4%) from the field.

The Lady Warriors are back in action for two road games later this week as they travel to Harvest Prep on Friday (11/28) and to Trotwood-Madison on Saturday (11/29).
