On Tuesday, April 21st, the Southwest Ohio Athletic Directors Association (SWOADA) held its annual awards breakfast to recognize various individuals involved at the OHSAA member schools in Southwest Ohio.
As part of the recognition, all of the state champion head coaches from Southwest Ohio are recognized - including Warrior Track & Field coach Mike Fernandez. Coach Fern was recognized for leading the Warrior Boys team to a state championship during the 2025 season. This marks the second consecutive year Fernandez was recognized after he was invited to celebrate the Lady Warrior track & field state championship from 2024.
Though not an OHSAA sport, it's important to note that including indoor track and field, Coach Fernandez' programs have won 6 of the last 8 state championships available dating back to the Spring 2024 outdoor season.
Athletic Director Joe Penno was also awarded the Horizon Award. The award is presented annually to an active athletic administrator who has demonstrated within their first five years, signs of professionalism and involvement, which has made a difference in their school or conference.
